The District Council sends it's recommendations and gradings to the Training
and Awards Committee and candidates must then appear before
an Area Board for a practical test. If considered suitable, they will be
granted a graded award. Every applicant for the Certificate of Recognition
must, at the date of application, be a full Class B member of the Union.
Diploma (DSNU)
Diplomas are awarded to Candidates who have passed the
required combination of subjects and who appear
before and pass an Area Board.
The Area Board will seek, by interview and submission
of practical work as appropriate, to further assess the candidate's
suitability for an award and give a final grade. The overall final grade
awarded by the Area Board takes into account the grades given for assignment
work, examinations and practical tests at District Council and Area Board
level. Every applicant for the Diploma

Fellowship of the SNU (FSNU)
The Fellowship is the SNU's highest academic award and is awarded by the
National Executive Committee (NEC) to holders of an SNU Diploma who have shown an
especially high standard of knowledge of the religion, philosophy or
science of Spiritualism. Applicants for the Fellowship must submit a thesis, on some subject connected
with Spiritualism, of at least 10,000 words that is suitable for publication.
The thesis is assessed by Fellowship Readers
whose recommendations are submitted to the NEC
for a decision on the award. Only a thesis of exceptional standard will be
accepted.
The Fellowship cannot be awarded retrospectively for work already
produced. Applications for the Fellowship or requests for further
information about the procedures and qualifications required should be
made to the Secretary of the Education Committee, with an indication of
the proposed subject-matter, so that further guidance may be given on the
requirements. It is a condition of the award of the Fellowship that the
copyright in the thesis is assigned to the Union on such terms as the
NEC considers fair.
