The National Executive Committee (NEC)

The NEC consists of the four SNU Officers, four Chairmen of Standing Committees, a representative of the Council, and three Ordinary Members.

The Officers are responsible for supervising the work of the Union's office and for ensuring that the business of the Union continues between meetings of the NEC. The Financial Director is also responsible for supervising the finances of the Union.

The President and Vice-Presidents are directly elected in alternate years, holding office for two years, from among nominated Class B members. Every Class B member and affiliated Church has a vote and the candidate with the highest number of votes is elected. The Financial Director is appointed by the incoming President and Vice-Presidents, in consultation with the outgoing President and Vice-Presidents, from among Class B members nominated for this position.

Chairmen of the four Standing Committees have a seat on the NEC. The Standing Committees organise and carryout specific areas of the Union's activities. Nominations for these committee chairmen are made by Class B members and Affiliated Churches, the Officers then appoint the most suitably qualified nominated person as Chairman.

The Council elects one of its members annually who then has a seat on the NEC.

The NEC may, at any time, appoint not more than three Ordinary Members to the NEC from among Class B members of the Union to carry out specific duties and functions assigned to them.

The NEC is equivalent to a board of directors and is responsible for coordinating the functions of the SNU, putting into operation policies and procedures, and for monitoring the performance of all areas of the SNU. The members of the NEC are unpaid and meet seven times a year.
