Arbitration Committee

The Arbitration Committee is a sub-committee of the SNU and reports directly to the National Executive Committee (NEC). The Arbitration Committee's functions are to:-

Deal with all complaints unless responsibility is assigned under the Bye-laws to another body.
Appoint mediators, to endeavour to secure an amicable settlement by agreement.
Appoint members of the Arbitration Panel, as may be necessary, to hear complaints.
Transfer complaints to the NEC, if it considers it to be the more appropriate body to deal with the matter.
Exercise powers in relation to complaints as are provided for in the Bye-laws.
If it thinks necessary, require security for costs before undertaking hearings; and
Make orders for costs in accordance with the Bye-laws
Make, alter or revoke its rules of procedure.
Keep records of all complaints referred to it and decisions made.
