The Philosophy of Spiritualism

The philosophy of SNU Spiritualism is founded upon our Seven Principles. These are our fundamental core principles and yet, unlike other religions, Spiritualists can interpret them as they think best.

The Seven Principles of SNU Spiritualism

The Fatherhood of God.
The Brotherhood of Man.
The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels.
The continuous existence of the human soul.
Personal responsibility.
Compensation and retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth.
Eternal progress open to every human soul.

This page and those on the left navigation provide words explaining the philosophy of SNU Spiritualism.

For two short explanations, or personal interpretations, of our principles read our page Principles Explained and Principles in Brief pages.

The concepts and original wording of the Seven Principles came through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge Britten, one of Spiritualism’s greatest mediums and speakers. Emma was inspired in 1871, by the communicating spirit of Robert Owen, to summarise the philosophy of Spiritualism in principles that all Spiritualists would agree.
