Everything has to start somewhere and it is in the B1 course that you can start learning about the SNU and SNU Spiritualism. Be reassured that this is a basic course, where you may lay down the firm foundations for your spiritual journey within the SNU organisation.

The B1 Course covers the following subjects

Introduction to the Philosophy on which SNU Spiritualism is based upon, ‘The Seven Principles’. Life after Death

This is a core belief within Spiritualism as expressed in our Third Principle, ‘The communion of Spirit and the Ministry of Angels.’

People, who we call ‘Mediums,’ are able to bring through messages of upliftment and love from those in the spirit world. Every week mediums serve the 350 SNU Spiritualist churches throughout the country and communicate with the spirit world on behalf of the people who attend church services.
When people die, the physical body is left behind. The body is like an ‘overcoat’ for our spirit to be clothed in, when our physical life is over this overcoat is taken off. Our Spirit then moves on to the spirit world where, if it is our wish, we are reunited with people we have loved.

In the spirit world we will have a different set of values and priorities as, for examples, we no longer have to go to work, earn money, pay mortgage, or have any dealings with money.  Instead, we have the opportunity to do all those things that we wanted to do when we were in the physical world. We may study, pursue knowledge and perhaps help in the advancement of science, we may develop artistic talent,  we may serve by giving spiritual healing or working with children.

Children, and adults who have suffered greatly or been victims of violence or accidental death need particular attention and help when they go into the spirit world. There is work for us to do when we reach the Spirit World.  If we love someone we will be with them again, love is the strongest bond, love is the foundation of God’s Universe.

The Beginning of Modern Spiritualism

On the night of 31st March 1848, in a small town called Hydesville, New York State, USA, two young girls called Kate and Margaretta Fox heard noises and knocks which became so loud that the family could not sleep.

After experiencing these noises for many days the two girls discovered something amazing. When they clapped their hands and called out to the noises their clapping was answered by the same number of knocking sounds.

The Fox family were joined in their new discovery by neighbours and a code was established, one knock for no and two for yes. Eventually, they realised that the noises were created by the spirit of a man whose name was Charles B. Rosna. This spirit communicated that he had been murdered by John C. Bell and that his body was buried in the cellar. In 1904, the remains of the body were discovered along with belongings and his tin box.

Spiritualist Healing

Spiritual healers act as a channel for Spirit to use. By Prayer and the Laying on of Hands spiritual healers bring comfort to those who are in need of healing. We have saying ‘FROM SPIRIT, THROUGH SPIRIT TO SPIRIT.  Healers work with the Spirit World and have a moral and ethical code of conduct.

Spiritualist National Union Organisation

The Spiritualist’s National Union (SNU) is a recognised religious charitable organisation.  It promotes the teachings of Spiritualism as: The SNU was formed to consolidate and unite the various Spiritualists churches, societies and groups into a single religious organisation. The SNU is a democratic body and each one of its members has a right to a say in its running.

The SNU has a Board of Directors, known as the National Executive Committee (NEC). The NEC comprises of an elected President and two Vice-Presidents, appointed Financial Director and Standing Committee chairmen a representative from the SNU Council and up to three Ordinary Members.

There is the National Council (The Council) that acts as an advisory body to the NEC. The Council comprises of the officers of the SNU, representatives from the 14 District Councils and the Spiritualists’ Lyceum, and a Class B members representative.

There are 14 regional administrative branches of the SNU, known as ‘District Councils’, and the Spiritualists’ Lyceum (SLU). The District Councils have meetings where Class B members and representatives of the churches and affiliated societies within their geographical area have their say and elect the local Executive Committees.
